October 22, 2007, 9:25 p.m.

PITTSBURGH, Pa., October 22, 2007 - Pitt is raising money for cancer research by competing against West Virginia University in a Backyard Brawl Penny War contest from 21 October to 16 November. Collection bins will be in Alumni Hall, Benedum Hall, Amos hall, Bruce Hall and additional locations as they are announced.

Sponsored by Greek Week and SGB traditions, the Penny War will help benefit the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Everyone on campus is invited to show his or her school spirit and participate. The winning school between the will be announced at the Backyard Brawl football game against WVU on 1 December at WVU. The winner will receive a traveling trophy to be used for future contest years.

In a penny war, bins are set out for the participants to accumulate as many pennies as possible. Other denominations of coins or bills will cause a negative score for the team, so it is vital to use only pennies in the competition.
